Are pannier frames/racks interchangeable???

I have a 2014 GSA that came with a standard BMW top case, and standard side pannier mounting frames. Does anyone know if these frames will work with other brands of panniers, or am I stuck staying with BMW panniers or swapping the frames? I'm mostly interested in Givi and Hepco & Becker. Thx.

Most aftermarket panniers require their own mounting system. A quick look at the websites of the two you mentioned shows they need their own racks. I have Touratech panniers which also require different racks than OEM. I couldn't say which panniers will work with the BMW racks but if you go to their websites I'm sure you can find out.

I think most aftermarket panniers require a different rack than stock (exception is the Brooks panniers). Most other racks will use a flat profile so you can mix and match one style rack with many different panniers. However, the quick and dirty approach is to just buy the same brand pannier and rack. Most are $250-$500 for the racks.

I put the SW-Motech racks on my GS (I like the camlock release mechanism for quick removal of the entire rack and pannier) and on these I can mount Givi, Pelican, Jesse, H&B, Happy Trails, Tusk, homebrew, etc.

Pro's and con's to whichever approach you take.
