hi, I have a 2016 r1200gs with 10k km on the clock. Full service history and never given any problems.
A few weeks ago the battery died. zi removed and recharged it and it died again after 2 days. I replaced the battery. Two days later same thing happened.
I disconnected spot lights and gps cradle which are the only extras. recharged and it died again.
I put an ammeter between negative terminal and it's connection and the bike is drawing 170mA while shutdown. I believe this should be more in the range of 20mA to 30mA.
What I am hoping is that someone from this forum might verify their bike to confirm my suspicions, any takers?
BTW there is no alarm on the bike.
Thank you!

On my 2016 GSA I replaced the original battery in 2022! Decided to buy the same Yuasa battery BMW uses as it lasted so long! I always have it on a smart charger (Optimate4). Well, last week I was getting hard and non start after only a few minutes ofriding like when I had to get gas and pick up something at the grocery. I would just wait a minute or so, then re start the bike. It was only 3 years since I've had this battery. It finally gave up on starting so I replaced it with a LiOn battery. All good now and hope it lasts at least 3 years. The only thing with LiOn batteries, is that you need to use a maintainer for this type of battery. The usual AGM or Lead acid battery maintainer should not be used.

I would just change that battery.

This will be my next battery. Has 240CCA, $120 in Amazon

The off draw should be more like 5mA. On my 2012 it's under 1mA. A failed diode in the stator / regulator circuit could be the cause. Check that the battery voltage at idle is over 13V, should be close or just over 14V. If it's 12.7 or less, that is probably your problem.

You can also track down the offending power consumer by getting a clamp on DC ammeter. They can be had for cheap on Amazon. If you get a quality one, expect to pay more like $200, but it's a good troubleshooting instrument to have.

Even 20-30mA would be devastating in a relatively short time. Do you really have nothing else hooked up to the bike? When you disconnect the GPS and aux lights, do you disconnect them from the battery?
No wireless phone charger or “EZ Can” or anything like that?
