After a 20 year absence from motorcycling, I have jumped back in whole hog. After buying and riding the snot out of two lesser machines, I’m considering the jump to a GS. Ultimate goal would be distance touring and learning to ride off-road. With that said, I’m not 25 anymore… in budget or strength. I can afford to buy whatever I want, but I’m not sure that that’s the best approach to getting into a bigger bike.
There are a lot of 2006 to 2008 1200s for sale in my area. Mileage ranging anywhere from 10 K to 50 K they run about $6k. 2014s in the $11s. The other option of course is to purchase a brand new bike at 22 or 23K. I do anticipate taking some courses and learning to ride for real. Better to start on a lesser machine and get a custom to its heft? I went to a dealer yesterday And with some creativity can make most any of the big work machines fit me.
I’d really like some opinions. I’m fairly certain I’m gonna drop this thing more than once off-road.
thanks
Seth
