Lots of tutorials on youtube how to diagnose and fix. Normally is a broken circuit. Cut the grip, roll it back and repair the break. Roll the grip back over the heat mat and seal up.

For BMW the replacement grips aren't mega expensive. Even if you manage to repair the heating element a new outer grip will probably be needed. I messed around trying a cheap fix on the TPMS sensor and in the end had to bite the bullet and buy a new unit.

 

$128 for new or a drop of solder and a few minutes to repair. Having choices is good.
