MPG info in a number of threads in the link below seem to indicate something is off on your bike as it should do a little better (should be above 40mpg). I've seen 10-15% improvement on mpg on my bike and vehicles running a few tanks with MMO in it.

Nothing wrong with my bike. Have a pal with a 1250GS. His does the same. Great MPG on back roads, but cruise much above 70mph and mpg goes down the toilet.

Theory 1: Shift-cam automatically kicks in about 4,000 RPM and when it does, the bike sucks gas.

Theory 2: GS is like riding a billboard aerodynamically. The faster you go, the worse the mpg...to the extreme.

Theory 3: GS and GSA are just geared too low. Too many revs at higher speeds.

I think the reality is Theory 1, 2 and 3 all contribute. My 1200 RT did great at speed. This GSA, not so much. I bought it new. It was checked out at 600 miles. I've serviced it since using Boxflyer full tool set. It's always run great but it's also always had poor MPG on the slab. Not the end of the world for me but I do take some quite long trips at least once every year, usually more like 5 or 6 per year.
