I got the unit paired with my Samsung phone but can't get it hooked up to the bike. I'm using the OBDLink app.

Did you turn the ignition on (but not running)?

Is this via Motoscan or GS-911? If Motoscan, what level do you have? With even the basic download, it should "hook up" but until you upgrade...Ultimate is my recommendation... you can't do anything.

I know Motoscan but others who know GS-911 can help more...

the obdlink app does not support bmw bikes or maybe any bikes. works fine on my gmc yukon you need the motoscan app that will connect the obdlink mx device to your bike. got this info direct from the obd support tech.

The OBDLink app is good for most cars, but not for the BMW motorcycles. If you are using an Android phone, get the MotoScan app. The free version will let you confirm that all works well. You can upgrade to the version that supports your needs. The Professional version will support most users.

Thanks so much for the condescending post. It’s of great service to myself and the forum members! If you don’t have something truly helpful to add, besides go seek help elsewhere, what true purpose is your contribution?

David
It wasn't meant to be condescending, David. Several others and myself have made numerous suggestions in this thread on how to get things working. I even sent you a link for some videos on how to make this work.

Not everyone is computer or technology literate...I get that. I'm certainly no expert myself. Not knowing your level of expertise, I merely mentioned getting with others who might have more experience in such matters.

If I offended you not by what I said, but HOW I said it, my apologies...

A series of videos that should answer most of your issues...

Plug the reader into your bike, using either the round-to-square adapter cable, or directly to the bike itself on the newer models that no longer have the round plug.

You have to pair the ODB reader to your phone...usually via bluetooth although it can be done via WiFi as well. Once the reader has been paired to your phone, turn the bike on, but NOT running.

Open the Motoscan app and you should see it "accept" the input from the reader.

If you have downloaded just the free basic app, it should read things but you can't do anything. To access all the options, you'll need to upgrade to either a Professional or Ultimate version, which aren't that expensive. There are also no additional fees for using it on numerous bikes, updates are free and the developer is pretty good about keeping things updated.

You need to know which "K" designation your bike is, based on model and model year. For example, my 2015 R1200GS is a "K50"...the GSA is a "K51". THAT is very important as it loads in the specific parameters and ECU map for your particular model.

Dave, ol' buddy...

I hate to say it but if you're having problems pairing something as simple as an app to your phone, you might be a bit "technologically challenged" (absolutely NO shame in that!).

Given that, IMHO, you have no business tinkering with Motoscan, if you get it to pair up, or wrenching on your bike until you gain some knowledge and experience.

A simple Google search for BMW motorcycle clubs in the Denver area turned up several. My advice is to hook up with someone from one of the clubs, see if they've got a tech day scheduled and then go from there. Nothing like learning from the voices and hands of experience!

Best of luck...

OK, thanks, that was what I was looking for... pair the unit with the OBD2 Link App first, which will take care of Bluetooth pairing, then the Motoscan software can find the diagnostic unit. I should get the cable Friday, and I'll let you know how it goes with my Android OS version 5.0.2, the latest my HTC One will run.

Lol...oh, the horror! Android 5.0.2 was released in ...o_O...2014...no longer supported after Dec 2020.

A VERY important note if you go looking for info on the app...there are actually TWO different apps out there called "Motoscan". The first, "Moto-scan" (www.moto-scan.com) is an inventory control app and is NOT what you want here.

"OUR" Motoscan is located at:

MotoScan – App für professionelle BMW Motorrad Diagnose

the .de is a Germany designator, where the developer is from. When you open that site up, it defaults to German but up at the top right is a button to change the language to English. On the upper left, there's a button to take you to all kinds of info.

I went through the FAQs to see if there were any Android version limitations and didn't see the issue addressed. If I were you, I would send an email to their "support" and ask that very question. From past experience, the developer is pretty good about replying back. Also a wealth of additional information on their site.

Cheers,

OK, got my OBD Link LX OBD2 Diagnostic Tool . Got the 16-pin to 10-pin adapter cable. Loaded Motoscan on my old Android phone running Android 5.0.2. I connected the tool to my 2014 R1200GS diagnostic port next to the battery. I turned off Wi-Fi as this interferes with the Bluetooth connection. I paired the tool with the phone via the Bluetooth connection page. I opened Motoscan and connected it to the Diagnostic Tool. I tested the connection, selecting my motorcycle model. I turned on Wi-Fi on the phone and purchased the Professional Version. I closed the application, re-opened it, used it to connect to the tool on the motorcycle, went to Service Reminder and successfully reset it! All tolled, $136.77 including Colorado sales tax. I got the unit on Amazon.com, the cable on E-bay, and the software from the Google Play store.

2015 1200GS - I've asked this question elsewhere on the Forum with no answers yet. This is the most up to date on this question/issue, so I'll start here.

I have a GS911 adapter cable (Amazon) and several ELM interfaces (OBD2). When plugged in, with the ignition on, but engine not running I get a green light on the interface, but no communication with a motorcycle. MotorScan shows the device is there, but when I select ABS, it gives me a no device connected message. I contacted MotoScan and they suggested a couple of interfaces including the OBDlink LX. I hate to go out and buy another interface at $90 if one of my other systems will work. What are your thoughts on this? Does anyone have success with other scanners? Am I doing something wrong?

I have noted that the actual cable can be miss wired with the "K" line in the wrong spot. what is the correct configuration for the gs911?

According to the MotoScan site, the ELM interfaces are limited in ability to be used.

Diagnostic adapter for BMW motorcycles - MotoScan - you might have to switch languages. I'm using an OBDLink MX+, although I've not had much time to really use it. I've found, however, that I can get into most of the modules successfully.
You're probably going to need to try another interface. Too many of the ELM units have too many problems.
