Having just purchased a 2008 R1200GSA (10,000 miles) and new to the Hexheads.
I have noticed that I get some popping during deceleration through the exhaust. Before I freak out had start adjusting the valves which where done by a BMW dealer in March >2000 miles ago, is this a normal thing for the Hexhead to do? The popping is annoying, something my R115RT or any other BMW has not done.

They all do that Sir. Some people even like it. :)

Recent owner of a 2012 GS1200 Rallye Edition. Mine does the same thing, pops and gurgles on deceleration. I was concerned as I am new to owning GS1200's but with these responses, I am less worried now. However, I do not get how anyone actually "likes" that sound? Spitting and backfiring elicits nothing but "embarrassment" as I am positive people around me are thinking "wow that dude needs to get that motor looked at". I am most definitely NOT A FAN...

In my experience all of my Hexheads popped on decel to some degree. OEM exhaust will give the illusion that its less prevalent but only because the OEM muffler does a really good job at muffling sound.

Your bike is fine. I have an Akropovic exhaust and it gives a nice burble and crack when I decelerate.
