Starting motor sort-out!

When I bought the GS just over a year ago, I thought the stating could be better...sharper...more enthusiasm, so I put it down to the battery being past its best. I changed the battery for a Motobatt and thought it would sort it.
After a while, I added an additional earth cable direct from the battery to the mounting bolt of the starting motor which would help, but looking back it did nothing to help the twin burst in to life.
All that was sometime ago, so after many miles and I will add it always started, it was time to dig a little further.
I removed the motor and could see pretty quickly, it was quite dirty, but opening it up it was bloody filthy! the brush holder was really bad and the other parts weren't much better.
So after a good degreasing and drying off, I ordered a new Bosch Carbon Brush holder part no 1 004 336 506 which was correct for my 2009 R1200GS. The cost was ÂŁ19 delivered to the UK and it was a Genuine part.
After assembly and installation the bike starts as it should...so for less than ÂŁ20 and a bit of work, it all works as it should.

True, my bike has 76,800 km on it, and luckily I was close to home when it stopped working. The starter stalled. When I disassembled it, I realized it was past time for preventive maintenance. The next item to check is the driveshaft.
