After the recall of the RX-5 I'd been in contact with Koso NA through email, FB DM and phone regarding the problems and their progress on resolving them. Fast forward about one year since my first contact with them, I saw a post on their FB page showing pics of their display area at a bike related trade show in Kentucky in late January. When I zoomed in on some of the products on a shelf I saw the RX-5 so once again I messaged them about the status of it. I got a cryptic reply saying 'good eyes', yes the product will be re- released in the next week or so. Shortly thereafter I got another FB message telling me that the firmware fix for the RX-5 was complete and they had a limited supply in stock if I was still interested. Over the next few weeks I spoke on the phone with the tech about the 'fix' and the sales manager.

Just a bit of boring history for you but the bottom line is i was aware they had a limited supply of them but the Sales manager said more were on the way. Canada Post has shocked the hell out of me as my RX-5 is in town now and I'll have it today or tomorrow. In anticipation of it's arrival I did a scan on my bike with the GS-911 for a before and after comparison and also made notes of the odometer, fuel range remaining and the service reminder date/mileage that I had set when I last serviced my bike to see if the RX-5 'collects' this date accurately after the install.

The owners on the German GS forum are impressed with the display however none have the ability to do a diagnostic scan to check for Fault Codes. I'm skeptical that the Koso engineers will have been able to write firmware such that the bike's ECU (main computer) will recognize the RX-5 and produce no fault codes but we'll soon see. Regardless, the Fault Codes shown in the Instrument Cluster section of scan report did NOT effect any of the features of the bike. On a side note, I've read of similar fault codes that show on the BMW R Nine T bikes when riders have installed the Koso DL-04 aftermarket gauge and I'm sure the same issue pops up with the many Harley gauges that Koso has developed for those bikes.

Is this enough mindless rambling for your morning coffee? LOL

I'm also fixating on my new Klim Carlsbad jacket which is late.

Perfect and eases my mind to know that no matter what patience’s is the key….I messaged the sales guy and he sounded as if he was unaware of fault codes and problems with this device but I did finally get that 3.27.24 email update so we will see… But I do have a question I don’t have the gs911 I have the moto scan app with obd1 connector which faults am I checking for so I can be aware of what I need to see a before and after…

I'm not familiar with that scanner so I can't help with that. The scan report (pdf) that the GS-911 generates has results from each module on the bike showing any fault codes. I'm sure you saw cut and pastes from DucRider early in the thread when he scanned his bike after the RX-5 install. The report showed Fault Codes relating to the ABS etc with the KOMBI which BMW calls the OEM display. Again, the data stored in the bike's ECU is accurately sent to the RX-5 but on a scan it does show that 'hey.....this isn't the OEM display.'

This is a dumb downed explanation as much of the information shown in the scan report is way above my pay grade.

I understand and trust me you have helped me a tremendous amount in not only understanding this process but also getting to know my bike better with my scan tool...I will run a diagnostic test this weekend and make sure to write every code down so I can see if they match up especially the maintenance service schedule..I have 5000 miles on my 2013 GS so my service will be coming up soon and im preparing for that now...but with this its going to make me dive deeper and hopefully share just as much as you have shared with me and I thank you for that...and yes after the first response I read with coffee in hand....LOL

Just ordered it. Will update upon receipt and during/after install (with expected profanity edited out).

BTW - currently discounted a little over $100.
I just got the Koso rx5 it’s a beautiful display over the stock odometer…. The only problem I have is the abs light stays on and that worries me a little bcs doesn’t that mean and is not working?

Not since the install I just got back from a ride and this thing will take some getting use to oh and the cruise control doesn’t work with it as well… other then that this thing is awsome…lol… it’s just cruise control and abs…if I can get a fix for those too it’s golden

I completed a diagnostic scan on the bike prior to the RX-5 install to establish a base line....no faults. Immediately after the install a scan revealed 4 Fault Codes. Two in the Engine Controller and two in the ABS Brakes. I cleared the Fault Codes then rescanned and the Fault Codes returned.

As I wasn't happy with these issues I elected not to go for a test ride. I think this display has a lot of potential however there continues to be quirks. It would be very helpful if the engineers had provided a Bluetooth feature so the end user could flash updated Firmware when these issues popped up.

I returned my unit.

I’m going to call them tomorrow when I get to work but change it back out tonight and if everything goes back to normal I know what I need to do… I’m about to change it out rite now…

Hello... Do you have any news about the rx5 speedometer?
Yes it’s a beautiful unit but and yes there is a but… your abs and cruise control is not able to be used… also instead of the normal ESA usage it’s just soft high and auto… and high made the bike sit up very high like it was pussing the shock to its limit…I ended up returning the unit..
